Abstract

Human capital has emerged as a crucial force in the competitiveness of SMEs in Southeast Asia. The cultural differences between Eastern countries in several countries in the region are of interest in the topic of human capital governance innovation in SMEs. This study aims to map the literature cultivation through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and identify the sectors that drive SME innovation in the context of human capital in Southeast Asia through SCOPUS database analysis, bibliometrics, and thematic analysis. This study uses strict filtering of the SCOPUS database migrated to bibliometrics to generate citation growth, article publications, and thematic morphology for visualization of this field. The results show a significant surge in publications, especially in 2025, which signifies a shift from traditional personnel administration to strategic human capital governance. Thematic analysis reveals that "Green Innovation" and "Climate Change" have developed into mature Motor Themes, while "Human Capital" and "CSR" serve as fundamental Basic Themes. Specifically, "ESG Performance" and "Family Business" are identified as Emerging Themes, offering new avenues for research.
